Cutting a path

It has been argued before that artistic success is purely subjective. I listened to the cartoonist who illustrates Horrible Histories series, explain that everyone can draw, and I would say that of many branches of artistic endeavour. Take note of Hemingway’s quote about no masters in the craft of writing.

Cutting a path

I picked up my pen and began to write,

not knowing the direction of travel,

as yet unaware of darkness or light,

or the way the work would unravel.

Like diving into an unread story,

each page with a frisson of excitement,

generating readers’ theory,

of the path of literary development.

No masters to light the path to success,

only apprentices on the writing road,

like spider efforts to overcome the stress,

praying for divine talent bestowed.

No real defined prospectus to writing glory,

just endless arachnid-like practice,

in finding suitable thread of story,

to achieve a design of promising access.
